I’ve Got Something Difficult To Say…
Posted by Rich Presta on 05/5/08 in Uncategorized
I’ve been slowly but surely working on putting together a new website for the Driving Fear program, the one I have now is fine I suppose, but when I first introduced it I put it up fairly hastily, not knowing it would get the attention it did, and to be honest, it’s well…a little ugly.
While I was clicking around, it reminded me why I started doing all this in the first place. As I looked at page after page of “anxiety”, “phobia”, and “panic attack” sites, it made me a little nauseated.
None of the people selling these crap-ola solutions was actually recovered by using any of this junk of course, and you’d think people would see through that…
But you’d be wrong.
See, these people make a boatload of money selling this hogwash, preying on people’s desire to feel better RIGHT NOW, without having to put forth ANY effort. There’s entire companies and buildings of people selling this stuff - they’re good at it, I’ll give them that - but I’m not quite sure how they can sleep at night taking advantage of people’s desperation. I guess we’re just cut from different cloth. It makes me sad because all these false promises they pitch only bring heartache, disappointment, frustration, and failure.
It’s like everyone’s lying to one another. The snake oil salesmen are lying to the people giving up their money, and the people buying it are lying to themselves thinking it’ll work. Can we all just quit lying to ourselves and each other?
I don’t think we’re meant to be together…
Here’s why…
It’s the EXACT steps I took to fully recover from my fear of driving, and the same steps that hundreds of others who are back on the road in comfort have as well. Plus a whole lot more…
But if you’re looking for the next “zero effort miracle”, you’re not going to like it anyway. You may as well stop reading now, I don’t have what you’re looking for. I simple refuse to join the other snake oil salesmen selling a bag of bullshit, no matter how much money it could generate – I refuse to sacrifice my integrity, to risk my good name in the industry that’s brought me this far, and I won’t insult your intelligence.
Sorry if this sounds harsh, but I’m just not willing to compromise. So if you’re looking for the next easy quick fix promise, if you just want someone to lie to you with a smile on their face so you have some hope for the next couple days – no hard feelings, just go someplace else.
But if you genuinely want to overcome your fear of driving. If you’re willing to put in some effort (not a ton, but some), and are honestly ready to turn your life around (not everyone is, some are comfortable the way they are, even if it limits them), then you’re who I want to be talking to, and I can’t wait to get the program into your hands, because nothing makes me feel better than getting an email or phone call from someone whose living a better life because of the program. Whether or not that next email is sent from you is in your hands…

Rich,
In the past, I’ve searched, I’ve seen, I’ve bought. I totally agree with you. I’ve been plugging away at your program and the S.A.F.E. series with much more enthusiam than ever. I may have a long journey, but I’m worth it.
Thanks so much for all you do!!

Rich,
I too have done hours and hours of searching trying to find “The Cure” for my fear of driving. I agree with you whole heartedly about the snake oil salesmen they offer you the world tell you what you want to hear that you will be cured instantly take your money and run they have no idea what the fear is like and frankly don`t give a damn after they have your money….The night I found you I stopped looking I had found what I had been looking all these years. Most of all “You” have been in my shoes at one time you know what`s it`s like and you have overcome your fear that was enough for me…you offer us so much more than just the program your always just email or phone call to give encouragement to who ever needs it. I don`t know if there is any other program out there that will do that. Please don`t change a thing as the old saying goes don`t fix what isn`t broke…I`m working the program I`m not as far as I would like to be but I`m getting there one bite at a time….

Hi Rich,
Your program is great. It’s well consolidated and encompasses many aspects of stress reduction and defines how stress affects a person’s life
As I’m making my way through your program, I find that you have done a wonderful job of grabbing key points regarding stress reduction and appling them directly towards driving. It’s been a huge help and has been very enlightening. Your program also includes a good deal of information on stress that I had not read anywhere else and has been very helpful.
And yes, there are no quick fixes. Your program is brilliantly geared towards gradually desensitizing a person towards their environment so as to gradually minimize the body’s overreaction. You have helped me visualize a plan of what I need to do.
I had had only brief fears of driving [such as driving down a very steep, dark, non-guardrailed roads] in the past - until I was hit twice within three years by other drivers. Before then, I was fine and loved driving. But after the second accident, I hadn’t been the same. It’s been a major challenge for me to accept my body’s over-protective mental/physical reactions, but your program has taught and helped me more than three other anti-anxiety therapists had been able to do because they had not expressed how things needed to be broken down into acceptable steps. They were unable to gear techniques specifically towards driving.
Your program has been helping immensely and has given me a great deal of hope to move forward in my fears of driving - and otherwise. Your program is great for driving, but I feel it would also help anyone who is in need of stress reduction.
Thank you so much for your program.

Hi Rich,
So far, everything you have said about your program has been true. I know all of this will take time, but it is working for me. Not only the fear of driving situations but life in general. Your approach is genuine and well stated. I can only believe that as the weeks pass I will be sending more email notes of continued progress. I am filled with more hope for a better life for me than ever before. Sincere thanks…

Rich,
Can I get an amen!
This is exactly why I chose your program over others. Being the eternal skeptic, I did some extensive web research before going with it, too… and discovered that yours was the only one without complaints scattered around the web in forums and such. No one had a bad thing to say about it, and I think we all can understand why now. Thanks for renewing our faith that there really are people out there who want to help, and aren’t just in it for money.
